Bathtubs From The Best Brands in Australia

When new bathtubs are needed, having a choice of styles can make the difference between a beautifully unique bathroom and an ordinary one. Here, you have many styles, shapes and sizes to choose from. If you want a free standing bath tub, you have options in stone or other top quality materials. Shapes include oval, round and rectangular. Steel tubs are sturdy and enduring and are available in rectangular shapes with rounded corners or ovals. Acrylic bath tubs are available in various shapes, including shapes designed specifically for corners.

If you want your bathroom to be like a home spa, you will find spas here too. We have spa baths available in various shapes, including rectangular, round, oval and triangular to fit in corners. Sizes range from as small as 1350mm up to 1900mm so you can find just the right size for the space you have to make your own home a personal resort.
Along with a new bath, you will need associated accessories that go with it. For the built in baths, we have bath panels. For all of the various styles, we have the appropriate bath tapware, bath spouts, wastes and headrests. All are manufactured using high quality materials.

Baths and Spas

If you are remodeling your bathroom and wish to add a new bath, you can choose from different bath types and spas that are available in the market. A new bath tub can transform a purely functional space into a stunning soaking spot. Here are some bath types that you can choose from depending on your taste and budget.

Free Standing Baths

Make the perfect splash with a free standing bath. These baths have plenty of area around and beneath, making the room look airy and larger than it actually is. Due to their design and style, they don't require a frame to support their structure, making installation easier. A free standing bath is a perfect luxury that can transform your daily ritual into a relaxing retreat that lets you wash away your cares and unwind at the end of a hectic day.

Steel Baths

Steel baths are quality and strength embodied, built to last. Quality Gala and Caroma steel baths are no exception and are designed and crafted to outlast your bathroom. These baths are the ultimate choice. They are pressed from seamless rigid steel, a strong highly durable material that won’t bend or flex, so the shape is permanent. They are coated with a non-porous, glass hard porcelain enamel finish which provides a hygienic, scratch and stain resistant surface.

Acrylic Baths

Acrylic bath tubs are practical and high on utility. The vacuum-formed acrylic sheets are reinforced with fibreglass to make the tub resistant to cracking and chipping. These bath tubs are relatively inexpensive and light in weight so you don’t have to worry about the strength of your floor.

Stone Baths

Refining Raw Materials

The baths' essential ingredient is limestone with only the purest limestone being used. The manufacturers use fine industrial mesh and powerful magnets to achieve this. The result is only the highest grade of limestone goes into the mix.

The Material

The material is made by mixing the refined limestone above with high grade resins. Air bubbles are removed in a high vacuum environment chamber.

Injecting Catalyst and Curing

Before the material is poured into a closed mould a catalyst is added. The catalyst is the means by which the material is hardened in a temperature-controlled environment. The top mould is removed. The bottom mould remains attached (to prevent any buckling) while the bath goes through a post curing heat tunnel for 180 minutes. This post curing process hardens the resin / limestone compound. Using specialised hole saws, the waste is drilled.

Quality Assurance Procedures

The bath is thoroughly examined for defects and uniformity of thickness throughout.

Polishing

In the final process, the bath is cleaned and highly polished.

Care and Cleaning of Cast Stone Bath Tubs and Spas

Before fitting your bath: Please remove cardboard packaging and inspect the bath.

Please note: shrinkage lines, air holes, casting marks and blemishes on the underside of the bath (where they can not be seen when the bath is turned upright) do not adversely affect performance and should not be regarded as defects.

The fitting of the bath feet and installation of the bath will be seen as acceptance of quality. We strongly recommend that you use a suitably qualified installer. We can not accept responsibility for incorrect installation.

Care and Maintenance

Regular and correct cleaning of your product will give you years of good use and it will continue to be the beautiful centrepiece of your bathroom.

Everyday Cleaning of Your Bath Tub

  • For regular cleaning use a mild detergent. We recommend that you use a non abrasive bathroom or kitchen household cleaner for your everyday cleaning as constantly using abrasives may cause the disappearance of the satin look over a long period of time.
  • For tougher stains use a cleaner like JIF (only for matt surfaces – gloss, consult your retailer). Should you need to clean your bath with an abrasive cleaner, polishing with a car polish or gumption will restore the luster in your bath.
  • Always use a clean, soft cloth
  • Rinse completely after washing and dry with a soft cloth; change your rinse water frequently
  • Don't use an excessive amount of detergent or soap as it may cause streaks
  • Do not use products which contain lemon juice, vinegar or other acids which may be contained in conventional bathroom cleaners or grout removers
  • If using dyes such as hair dye, immediately and very thoroughly rinse the bath so that NO trace is visible
  • When not in use dust with a non-treated dry duster
  • If in doubt contact your retailer.

Repairing a Scratch

If any scratches occur, these can be removed by rubbing with a 1500+ grit waterproof abrasive paper and water.

Repolish the surface afterwards using a neutral automotive colour restorer or household metal polish. Deeper scratches may require a more abrasive paper to be used initially. If this is case, work your way up to 1500 grit gradually and re polish. For best results limit sanding to the smallest possible area around the scratch.

It may be possible to polish very fine scratches away, without using abrasive papers, by scrubbing gently with a soft brush or plastic pad (do not use metal scouring pad) and a mildly abrasive cream cleanser. Afterwards scrub the whole area with plenty of clean water and re polish as before.

Spas

For a more upscale bathroom, you can choose from a range of spa baths. Simple, understated, and sophisticated, these spa baths embody all things contemporary. The architecturally influenced edges and angles ensure complete body rest and smooth water spray.

Bath Screens and Panels

Bath screens and panels are designed to complement all decors and bath accessories. Ranging from designer collections to the family friendly selection, the bath screens and panels are stylish, easy to install, easy to clean, and relatively inexpensive.

Bath Tapware

You can complement the baths and spas with tapware which is available in a range of makes and finishes. Choose from a wide array of bath tapware including spouts, water mixers, shower heads and arms that ensure beauty, affordability and practicality.

Bath Spouts

With bath tubs becoming the focal point of all bathrooms, the humble bath spout has also become a piece of pride within the bathroom space. Spouts are available in three basic styles: hob mounted, wall mounted, and floor mounted. These spouts can be used with either a mixer or traditional tap handles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Spa Baths good for you?

Yes, it’s been proven that spa baths are good for you.

Spa baths offer the primary physical benefit of helping to increase blood circulation throughout your body. Increased circulation helps deliver the oxygen required to make your skin glow, giving you a visibly younger look.

The blend of warm water and jets massaging your body not only offer physical benefits, but also psychological benefits. Spa baths can reduce stress and anxiety, helping both your body and mind relax simultaneously.

If you suffer from tension headaches that can descend into crippling migraines, then it may be worth trying spas. The massage you receive while allowing yourself to experience weightlessness just sitting in the spa helps to relax your muscles and could be life changing.

What should I consider when looking for a new bathtub?

There are a number of factors to consider when you’re looking for a new bathtub. A few of which we’ve highlighted below.

Bath style: Consider which style of baths are available. Primarily the styles of baths to choose between are freestanding and inset, both of which we’ve gone over in the answer below. But as always there are a few variations once you research a little deeper.
Bath size and shape: The size and shape of your bathtub are key considerations. How big should the bathtub be in order to fit in your bathroom, while still offering maximum comfort? How about whether an oval or square shape looks best?
Bathroom walls: The position of walls is another factor worth considering. If your bath is to sit against a wall, ensure it’s fully sealed or that you can clean in between. We see this consideration overlooked far too often.

What styles of baths are available?

There are primarily two styles of baths available.

Freestanding baths: This style of bath is often used as the primary focal point in a bathroom. Standing alone without any support from a wall, they’re a bold choice that draws attention for their perceived luxury.
Inset baths: This style of bath is much more understated, but doesn’t have to be any less luxurious. Positioned in the corner of your bathroom or against a single wall, inset baths help to maximise floor space and usually offer a ledge to rest items on as you bathe.

While these are the two most popular styles, there are slight hybrids of the two where you’re able to place freestanding baths against a wall.

As you’ll discover in our next answer however, these hybrid baths must be designed correctly to either block water spillage or allow enough space to clean.

Can you put a freestanding bath against a wall?

If you can’t go past the luxurious elegance of a freestanding bath but are short of floor space within your bathroom, you may be tempted to put a freestanding bath against a wall. Before doing this, you’re going to have to make a couple of considerations.

The primary consideration is whether the design advantages of a freestanding bath trumps the extra cleaning work that you’re going to have to do when it’s pushed against a wall. That small space between the bath and wall will soon catch dust and be a prime place for damp mould to develop.

If you can’t bring it out about 30 cm from the wall, then we’d recommend using a hybrid that allows you to raise the shelf and tile it against the wall so there’s no visible gap.

What is better - stone, steel or acrylic baths?

When it comes to choosing between stone, steel or acrylic tubs, the choice is entirely up to you and what you’re trying to achieve in your bathroom.

Acrylic tubs are a popular choice for their durability when compared directly to porcelain. They’re a flexible and often cheaper option when it comes to both their up-front cost and installation as they’re lighter. Acrylic tubs are a better option for most family bathroom settings.

Stone tubs are beautiful from an aesthetic point of view and a more luxurious choice over an acrylic bath. Stone baths will retain the heat for longer giving you a more time to relax and shed the day's stress.

Steel tubs are enamel coated making them easy to clean and one of the most resilient types of baths on the market. They are also available in many shapes and sizes.

What is the most comfortable bath shape?

The bottom line is that you’re going to want a bath that not only looks great but is comfortable enough to relax into after a hard day at work.

When it comes to choosing a bath shape for comfort, whether they’re oval or square-shaped on the outside doesn’t matter. What matters is how the inside surface, especially the bottom, has been designed.

We find that the most comfortable bathtubs have an ergonomically shaped bottom and back, allowing your body to mould into it when you take a seat.

Another factor when it comes to choosing the most comfortable bath shape is whether the back is lower than your feet. This design means that you won't have to hold yourself up from sliding down, keeping you locked in your sitting position and able to truly relax.

Is a pressed steel bath suitable for a family with children?

Absolutely, our steel baths are manufactured from the highest guage 3.5mm porcelain on steel, ensuring great hygene properties, scratch resistance, sound deadening and heat retention. Most come with a 30 year warranty.

Acrylic is also a great option for children as modern materials and manufacturing methods produce very high quality products with greatly improved heat retention. Most of these come with a 15 year warranty.

Whichever way you decide to go, The Blue Space strongly recommends the use of pop-down wastes with any bath, read more about why in our Product Advice section.

Do you have a bath suitable to have a bath screen installed on it?

Absolutely, our steel baths are manufactured from the highest guage 3.5mm porcelain on steel, ensuring great hygene properties, scratch resistance, sound deadening and heat retention. Most come with a 30 year warranty.

I have some chips on my pressed steel bath. Can this be repaired?

Yes, there are bath repair kits available. However, if your bath is old it might be better to simply replace it as the repair kits do not guarantee perfect results.

IIs an acrylic bath durable? Does it retain heat well?

Modern quality acrylic baths are both durable and have excellent heat retention. They also often come with excellent 15 year warranties.

Of course, like any other item, they can incur damage in the form of scratching. However, the material is the same colour throughout so minor scratches are frequently not very noticeable.

How many litres will the bath holds?

This depends on the individual bath. The capacity is listed in the specs for each bath.

Are the stone products man made or natural?

They are man made which gives the look and feel of a natural product with the confidence of a 10 year warranty. Cast Stone Solid Surfacing is a unique blend of high quality resins and limestone with a matt finish that will stay as flawless as the day it first graced your home.

Do I need to consider weight when buying a stone bath?

Absolutely, when you add the weight of a stone bath, a couple of people and water, it's usually well over 500kgs. The Blue Space recommends seeking advice from your builder or trades before purchasing.

I would like to upgrade a bath/spa in my house. Which one is best for water saving?

The size of your bath or spa, along with how much it's filled, dictates how much water it will use. If water saving is important, limit the amount of water put in the bath and how often it's filled.
