How to Design The Perfect Powder Room

The powder room may traditionally be small in size, but it is a room that can have one of the biggest impacts when it comes to a beautiful space for your guests, so it's important to give it a little attention.

So, what is a powder room exactly? And do you need one? A powder room is a smaller, half bathroom that usually consists of a toilet and small vanity with mirror for quick visits and makeup touch-ups. If you have a powder room located near the entertaining area, it will also avoid guests having to walk through the entire house to find the rest room.

We have seen many stunning little spaces and want to share some of our top tips with you for the ultimate guest powder room, so here goes;

Wall Hung Basins and Vanities

With so many custom made vanities to choose from, you will be able to find a style and colour that suits your design choices. ADP have a wide range of custom made vanities that start at 400mm and provide some much needed storage for extra toilet rolls and toiletries.

If you don't have the space for a small vanity, consider a wall hung hand basin, you can even get one with a side shelf.

Toilets

Our top pick is a rimless toilet - the pan of the toilet is rimless, meaning there are nowhere for germs to hide and it is quick and easy to clean.

Behind the wall toilets are also a great choice for small powder rooms as the cistern is hidden in the wall for a minimal streamlined look.

Lighting

Lighting is very important for the ambience you want to set in your space. Lots of natural light from a window or skylight will bounce light around the room and make the room feel larger.

If you are looking for a luxurious moody space, dimmed lighting and dark features can work a treat. Look for a stunning pendant light to compliment your space.

Mirrors

Oh how we love a large mirror in a small space! The mirror will give the illusion of a larger room and also gives you or your guests an extra space in the home to get ready.

Add Colour

Add style and personality with splash of colour through your wallpaper, tiles or tapware choices. Here's our tips to even out the space;

  • White wall tiles pair perfectly with a coloured or patterned floor tile.
  • If you have a neutral pallete in the rest of the space, use wallpaper to create a feature wall behind the vanity or basin.
  • Use coloured tapware to add a touch of difference. Matte Black, Brushed Gold and Gunmetal Grey are a few of our favourites.

Have some fun with your powder room moodboard, after all, it's a space that most of your guests will see.

Essential Decor

Add a little luxury to your powder room with beautiful soft hand towels, a lovely scented soy candle, a leafy green pot plant and a stylish soap dish or jewellery dish.
