The Block Week 10: Robby & Mat’s Alfresco & Shed Week

The Block Week 10: Robby & Mat’s Alfresco & Shed Week

There was a lot to do in Alfresco Terrace and Shed Week, but Robby and Mat had an even bigger challenge than their neighbours: after 10 weeks of planning, secrets, and one massive hole in the ground, it was finally time to deliver their wine cellar.

Yep, in House 5, it wasn't just Alfresco Terrace and Stratco Shed Week. It was Wine Cellar Week, too. And the results were jaw-dropping.

A warm, welcoming alfresco

"Wow. Visually, it connects so well with the interior."

Known for critiquing their styling in the past, this time she praised their dining zone, which seats ten and balances dark exteriors with light decking and furnishings.

To recreate this look at home, combine sculptural black lighting, such as the Eglo Fremantle 2 Light Adjustable Light, with the Martec Avoca Smart 52in Ceiling Fan in black ) for year-round comfort and style.

Marty summed it up: "This is textbook. There's nothing that a buyer will walk into here and not enjoy."

The perfect shed

The shed was cleverly split into two spaces: a traditional workbench built in Scotty's Sawmill ("Stunning," said Shaynna), and a fully equipped gym that left Darren beaming: "I want one of these! I'm super nerding out. It's literally got everything you want."

To ground the look, opt for large-format matte tiles, such as the Nuvira Dark Grey Matte Porcelain Tile (300 x 600mm), which mimic industrial gym flooring while offering a more elevated, durable finish.

"The perfect shed, a working shed for tools, and the gym. I want it," said Shaynna.

The wine cellar that stole the show

"Oh my god, this is insane!" — Shaynna

The cellar combined classy joinery, moody tones and warm lighting to perfection. Mirror the look with sculptural pendant lighting, such as the Telbix Polk ES 45cm Pendant in Matte Black, above a bar. For cabinetry, consider elegant hardware like the Momo Belgravia Pull Handle or Momo Vann Lip Pull Handle.

Add character with geometric tiles, such as the Soluna Arc White Porcelain Tile and Soluna Arc Cotto Porcelain Tile, which echo Robby & Mat's statement wall. "The joinery is classy, it's elegant, it's expensive, and it justifies the existence of this wine cellar. This is the perfect wine cellar," said Shaynna.

Judge's verdict

"They have now taken themselves out of the competition and put themselves in a totally new bracket because of what they've added," Marty said. "They backed themselves in, and that self-belief has brought them to this point in time. That's a lesson for everyone." Robby & Mat's vision, planning and risk paid off, delivering a home with serious buyer appeal.
