Difference between shower and bath taps

Mixer Tap

Mixer taps or faucets have a single spout and have either a single or two handles on either side of the spout. Water flow and temperature is controlled by the handle which mixes the hot and cold water flow through a cartridge. This style of tap creates a convenient and stylish feature for both contemporary and traditional bathrooms. When considering a mixer tap be sure to check with your plumber if there is currently a three piece tap, in case additional plumbing is needed.

Three Piece Tap

Three piece bath or shower taps feature one central spout and two separate temperature controls for ease of use. If you are after a quick renovation without moving plumbing or looking to create a heritage / french provincial look don't hesitate with a three piece set.

Bath/Shower Diverter Mixers

A single mixer with a diverter can be used for both a shower head and bath spout or two shower heads, as the handy diverter can be used to switch water flows between plumbing behind the wall.

Freestanding Bath Mixers

Freestanding bath taps rise up from the floor and create a minimalist modern look in your bathroom. Our favourite pick is the Caroma Contura Freestanding Bath Mixer the contemporary European design of this mixer will lift the feel of any bathroom space.

How to replace shower tap set?

Taps and mixers must be replaced by a licensed plumber in order to maintain your warranty period. How simple and straightforward replacement is depends on the age of your home and the style and condition of your existing fixtures.

How do shower mixer taps work?

Mixer taps connect to both cold and hot water supplies which, when activated, mixes the flow of both hot and cold water together to produce a warm flow of water. Mixer taps utilise ceramic disc cartridges which allow a smooth, simple operation and are less likely to wear out than rubber or plastic jumper valves. The temperature can be adjusted warmer or cooler by rotating the handle left or right and the flow can be adjusted harder or softer by moving the handle forwards or backwards.

Are shower mixer taps a standard size?

Most shower mixer handles and faceplates are not interchangeable with the in-wall components. This means that if you want to update the look of your shower mixer you will likely need to change the entire unit, including the component behind the wall. Therefore, it is always better to ensure you are buying good quality tapware first time round.
