Create a Steampunk Style Home

Steampunk home decor often embraces an industrial aesthetic and mixes elegant interiors with an industrial or mechanical style. Steampunk fixtures include materials like copper, brass, granite, corrugated steel and any other mechanical pieces to incorporate the 19th century. Black, copper tones, dark timber and patterned finishes are right on trend for Steampunk interior design.

We’ve made it easier for you to find your steampunk style! Check out our interior designer approved and curated steam punk home collection for everything you need.

How to achieve the steampunk look:

  • This is one style where going dark is mandatory! Go for black tiles and deep tone painted feature walls
  • Exposed copper pipe is the essence of this style – go one step further with a copper toned basin and rose gold or black tapware and accessories
  • Dark, patterned Victorian era wallpaper makes a great statement
  • Accent with rich timber flooring
  • Use pendant lights and wall lights (with exposed bulbs) to add drama to the room
  • Mix old and new – try an antique lamp or clock

Traps to avoid:

  • Breaking the rules – exposed pipe may not be allowed by your local council, so check first and fake it if necessary
  • Overdoing the copper – use as little as you need to create a steampunk environment
  • Too much steam punk décor – don’t be afraid that no one will get it if you don’t spell it out. A simple Victorian wall print will do the trick.
