White Lighting

White lighting buying guide

White is the most common lighting fitting finish for a reason: it blends into a white or light-coloured ceiling and wall better than almost any other colour, making the fitting itself recede so the light output is what stands out. This collection spans wall lights, downlights and ceiling fittings in white across Telbix, Brilliant and Eglo.

Fitting colour versus light colour

"White" on a lighting product can describe two different things: the fitting's own finish (the housing or frame) and the colour temperature of the light it emits, often labelled warm white or natural white. A product listing showing both, such as a white-finish wall light with a natural white globe, is describing the fitting and the light output separately, not the same attribute twice.

Choosing a colour temperature

Warm white (around 3000K) gives a softer, more relaxed light suited to living areas and bedrooms, while natural or cool white (4000K and above) gives a brighter, more neutral light better suited to kitchens, bathrooms and task-focused areas. This is independent of whether the fitting itself is white, black or another finish.

Downlights and ceiling fittings

Brilliant's Umbra downlight and Telbix's Sky ceiling light are white-finish options in this collection suited to a flush or recessed ceiling installation, which is the most common lighting choice for a room needing even, general illumination rather than a feature fitting.

Wall lighting in white

Eglo's Passa wall light gives a white-finish option for accent or directional lighting at a fixed wall height, suited to a hallway or either side of a mirror where a ceiling fitting alone wouldn't give even light.

Standalone globes in this collection

This collection also includes standalone LED globes, such as Telbix's ES classic globe, sold separately from a fitting for replacing an existing bulb rather than installing a new fixture. Check whether a product listing is a complete fitting or a globe alone before ordering, since the two are priced and installed very differently.
