What Is a Door Pull Handle?
A door pull handle is a fixed handle that doesn’t twist or latch — you simply pull the door open or closed. These are most commonly used on:
- Front entry doors (with a separate locking mechanism)
- Double doors (one active, one dummy)
- Pivot doors
- Internal barn or sliding doors
- Commercial fit-outs or shopfronts
They come in a variety of finishes — matte black, brushed stainless, brass and more — and can be mounted back-to-back or on one side only.
Important note: Unless specifically stated, these pull handles don’t include locks or latches — they’re purely handles. You’ll usually pair them with a separate deadbolt, digital lock, or latch system depending on your door’s function.
How to Choose the Right Pull Handle Size:
Here’s a quick guide to the most common pull handle sizes and what they’re best suited for:
300mm – 450mm
Best for: Internal feature doors, smaller external doors, sliding doors
Why pick it: Clean and minimal without dominating the door. Great for subtle styling.
600mm – 900mm
Best for: Standard-sized entry doors (2040mm high), double doors
Why pick it: Adds presence to your door while keeping things balanced. This is the most popular size range for front doors.
1200mm – 1800mm+
Best for: Oversized pivot doors, grand entryways, commercial entrances
Why pick it: Makes a strong design statement. These longer pulls are ideal for tall or wide doors, especially when you want that luxe, architectural look.
Tip: For visual balance, aim for the pull handle to be roughly one-third to one-half the height of your door — but this can vary depending on your style.
What Are Offset Pull Handles?
You might notice some pull handles are described as “offset” — but what does that actually mean?
An offset pull handle is mounted slightly away from the face of the door, using stand-off brackets or mounts. This means the handle works more ergnomically, especially for heavier, sliding doors as you can achieve better leverage. Offset Pull handles can also provide adequate space for locks and prevent your hand from hitting the door frame where there is only a narrow space available for a pull handle.

Mounting Style
Do you want a pull handle on one side of the door, or back-to-back (inside and outside)? Some models are sold as pairs for this purpose.
Finish
Match your handle to your door hardware or overall theme — matte black for a modern look, stainless steel for something timeless, or brass for a bit of character.
Indoor vs Outdoor Use
All pull handles at The Blue Space are built tough, but if it’s going on a front door, make sure to pick something rated for outdoor exposure.
Pairing With Locks
If this is going on an external door, you’ll need to pair your pull handle with a separate mortice lock, deadbolt, or smart lock (often sold separately).
