Castella Plume Cabinet Handles Buying Guide
The Castella Plume is a rustic zinc alloy cabinet handle range from Castella's Artisan collection, designed in Spain. It includes a 96mm pull and a 30mm knob in Antique Brass and Rustic Tin, and suits farmhouse, cottage and heritage-style kitchens, vanities and furniture.
What sizes does the Castella Plume come in?
The Plume pull is 120mm long overall with a 96mm fixing distance, and it projects 25mm from the door. The knob is 30mm across and also projects 25mm. The fixing distance, or centre-to-centre measurement, is the gap between the two screw holes, so measure your existing holes before ordering a replacement.
Where should I use a 96mm handle?
A 96mm handle suits vanity drawers, small kitchen drawers and overhead cupboard doors. As a guide, a pull looks balanced when it is roughly a third of the drawer width, so the Plume pull suits drawers up to about 360mm wide. For wider drawers, choose a longer pull. Use the matching knob on doors and the pull on drawers to keep one finish through the room.
What finishes are available?
The Plume comes in Antique Brass and Rustic Tin. Antique Brass is a warm, aged gold tone that suits timber, cream and green cabinetry. Rustic Tin is a paler, grey metallic finish with a worn look that works with white, grey and painted cabinets. Both are applied finishes on a zinc alloy body, so they look aged from the start rather than developing a patina over time like solid brass.
Is zinc alloy a good material for cabinet handles?
Yes. Zinc alloy is a strong, cast metal that holds fine detail well, which is why it is widely used for decorative hardware. It is heavier and more solid in the hand than aluminium. Because the colour is a surface finish, protect it from harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaning.
How are Castella Plume handles installed?
Each pull fixes through the door or drawer front with two screws from the back, and the knob with one. Check the screw length suits your door thickness. When replacing handles, a 96mm pull drops into existing 96mm holes without new drilling. For new joinery, a drilling template helps place every handle at the same height and distance from the edge.
How do I clean antique-finish handles?
Wipe them with a soft, damp cloth and mild soapy water, then dry them straight away. Avoid metal polish, abrasive pads, vinegar and strong cleaners, which can strip or change an aged finish. In bathrooms and coastal homes, wipe the handles regularly with fresh water and dry them to keep moisture and salt from marking the surface.
