Meet Jemma
Jemma Juckes, 34, from Sydney, is an integral part of her local community, known for her warmth, kindness, and resilience. She is married to Lang and is a loving stepmum to Riley and fur-mum to their dog, George. In April 2023, Jemma was diagnosed with stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer with an EGFR exon20 mutation, a rare and aggressive form of cancer. What started as sciatica pain led to the discovery of tumors on her spine, culminating in a life-changing diagnosis. Despite her battle, Jemma remains determined, undergoing rounds of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiation, and participating in a trial drug program.
Recently, Jemma was offered access to a new trial drug, Amivantamab, specifically designed to target her rare mutation. However, this potentially life-saving treatment comes at an enormous cost—approximately $10,000 per session, required every fortnight for as long as the treatment remains effective.
