Ultimate Guide to Shower Heads: Best Styles, How to Clean & More

Your shower, your sanctuary

Shower heads are no longer one size fits all. They are more stylish and practical than ever before. If your shower is your sanctuary, then you are going to want to know what shower head is best for you. Read along to find out the different type of shower heads and which is best suited to your bathroom renovation!

What are the different types of shower heads?

The two different shower heads are overhead shower heads (or rain showers), and hand held shower heads. Size, shape, and spray function also play a factor in the differences between these.

Overhead shower heads or rain showers often come in 200mm-400mm sizes and can be in a square or round shape.

A hand held shower head is often around 110mm-130mm in size, and can come in different options of spray functions. Some hand held shower heads are a simple singular spray function, whereas some have multiple spray functions which can allow for you to change the amount of water that comes out, as well as the pressure of the water.

What shower head is best?

Different shower heads have different capabilities, and it depends on what you are after for the long haul. For the main bathroom, go for a more luxurious overhead shower head with a hand held shower with multiple spray settings. For a guest or children’s bathroom, you could opt for something simpler. You can even get a shower on rails, which allows you to move the hand held shower up an down the rail - perfect for a family of different heights.

An overhead shower head is perfect for that full body soak, and a hand held is ideal for those days you don’t want to get your hair wet. A hand held also makes it easier to clean your shower!

Our favourite shower is a double shower head (or a twin shower) where you can get the best of both worlds.

If you only have one water inlet, opt for a Compact Twin Shower. It's perfect for homes that currently have a wall shower head and are looking for a complete upgrade. With a range of styles available, you'll be able to find one that suits your space with ease.

How to change a shower head?

Looking for a quick upgrade? Changing your shower head is simple and does not require a plumber! Simply unscrew the shower head, and screw on your new one. You will just need to make sure the thread of the new one will fit.

How to clean a shower head?

Warm, soapy water is the best way to go with cleaning your shower head. We don’t recommend any harsh chemicals as this may ruin the finish of your shower. Remove your showeer head where possible and soak your head for no more than 5 minutes before softly rubbing off any residue or grime that may start to show.
