Mixer taps connect to both cold and hot water supplies which, when activated, mixes the flow of both hot and cold water together to produce a warm flow of water. The temperature can be adjusted warmer or cooler by rotating the handle left or right and the flow can be adjusted harder or softer by moving the handle forwards or backwards.
Most shower mixer handles and faceplates are not interchangeable with the in-wall components. This means that if you want to update the look of your shower mixer you will likely need to change the entire unit, including the component behind the wall.
