Tips To Maintain Your Stone Benchtops

Stone is the most popular choice for kitchen bench tops around Australia due to it's timeless beauty and low maintenance. We have put together our top tips for ensuring your stone bench top is always looking a striking as they day it was installed.

1. Use Non-abrasive Household Cleaners

The kitchen is one of the most used rooms in the home, so there are always fingerprints, water marks or spills occurring on the kitchen benchtop. Use a damp soapy cloth, or a soft spray to clean your benchtop (water and vinegar works a treat), this will ensure harsh chemicals don't remove the sheen on your benchtop.

2. Use a Chopping Board

While food prep can be done directly on your stone benchtop, avoid using sharp objects and knives without a cutting board as a precaution.

3. Use a Heat Pad For Pots

Stone is heat resistant, however it is not recommended that you place an extremely hot (above 150 degrees celcius) pan, pots or oven trays directly on the bench surface, always use a heat pad or tea towel as surfaces can face damages during rapid temperature changes.

4. Stubborn Stains

Ever spilt soy sauce, red wine, food colouring or ink on your stone bench? Don't stress, there are harsh free ways to rid the stains to avoid damaging your benchtop. Household alcohol and a soft cloth will work a treat, but if it's a tougher stain, apply a mild degreaser on the surface and let sit for a few minutes, then wipe with a clean damp cloth and towel dry.
