Create an Art Deco Style Home

The bold structure of an Art Deco home is both captivating and nostalgic. The distinguishing features of this style are simple, clean shapes, bold ornamental or geometric patterns, rich colours and anything that feels exuberant.

The Art Deco period was well known for being a little bit over-the-top, in all the best ways. With a bold, illuminated mirrors, some beautiful printed wall paper and a striking feature bath, you’ll be well on your way to your own Art Deco inspired retreat.

If you need some Art Deco interior design ideas, look no further than our curated collection hand picked by our in-house interior designer.

How to create an Art Deco style home:

Traps to avoid:

  • Rooms full of antiques - one antique vanity or stool is enough
  • Make sure there aren’t too many contrasting bright colours & patterns - if that’s what you’re interested in then our Maximalist style might be better suited to you!
  • Avoid flowery or floral prints, these are more suited to an Antique & Vintage style
  • Don’t overdo it - you don’t want the room to feel stark and uninhabited
  • Balance the fine line between visually interesting & totally dated - too many zig zags, geometric shapes and rich colours in the one room will date it instantly

Art Deco

Inspired by geometric shapes and patterns of architectural structures, the art deco bathroom combines modern flare with heritage pieces to create a clean and sophisticated look. Unique shapes and colours add to this space, often in combination with trapezoidal and zig-zag patterns to create a timeless yet modern experience. Darker colour palettes elevate this look, especially when paired with brass or matte black tapware and fixtures. This stark contrast creates a bold and sophisticated look reminiscent of the time-period inspiring this collection.

Play with shapes when designing this room. Arch or trapezoidal mirrors add a sense of elegance to these spaces and create a spacious feeling. Pair these against angular tiles or an art nouveau wall paper to really embody the art deco style. To finish this space, bring forward bold and unique artworks featuring a pop of colour to break up the room.

Combining unique heritage features and moody colour palettes, this art deco style will leave any bathroom feeling luxurious and expensive.
