The Ultimate Guide to Choosing the Perfect Toilet for Your Australian Home

At The Blue Space, we know bathrooms aren’t just rooms—they’re personal sanctuaries. For over a decade, we’ve helped Australian homeowners like you transform ordinary spaces into functional, stylish retreats. Choosing a toilet might seem straightforward, but it’s a decision that impacts comfort, efficiency, and even your home’s value. Let’s cut through the clutter and find a toilet that fits your life, not just your bathroom.

Why Your Toilet Matters More Than You Think

Think about how often you use your toilet daily. Now imagine if it saved water, cleaned itself, or adapted to your family’s changing needs. Modern toilets are far from basic—they’re smart, sustainable, and designed to solve real-world problems.

Take water usage, for example. Older models guzzle up to 12 litres per flush. Our close-coupled toilets slash that to 4.5 litres, thanks to dual-flush vortex technology. For households juggling busy schedules, our smart range includes self-sanitising bowls and programmable settings—because nobody wants to scrub at midnight.

Toilet Styles: What Works for Your Home?

1. Small Bathrooms? Go Vertical

Wall-hung toilets aren’t just trendy—they’re practical. By lifting the bowl off the floor, they make mopping easier and create the illusion of space. Pair them with our in-wall concealed systems for a seamless, modern look. Pro tip: Install the cistern at waist height during renovations for easier maintenance.

2. Hate Cleaning? Try Rimless

Rimless designs aren’t a gimmick. Without that hidden ledge, grime has nowhere to hide. Our rimless models use direct-flush jets to blast away waste, reducing scrubbing time by up to 70%. Perfect for allergy sufferers or pet owners.

3. Love Classic Design? We’ve Got You

Traditional doesn’t mean inefficient. Our traditional collection features high-level cisterns and roll-top rims, but with modern twists like ceramic glazes that resist staining. Pair with a Turner Hastings pan for a vintage vibe that’s easy to maintain.

4. Accessibility Made Stylish

Need a toilet that adapts to mobility challenges? Our accessible range includes models with 500mm seat heights (the Goldilocks zone for ease of use) and side-mounted flush buttons. Bonus: They come in contemporary finishes like matte white, so they blend—not scream “hospital.”

Smart Tech: Beyond Gadgets

Picture this: It’s 6 AM in July. Your bathroom floor is freezing. But your toilet seat? Toasty warm, thanks to Bravat’s smart models. These aren’t just fancy add-ons—features like UV sterilisation and odour-neutralising fans tackle real hygiene headaches.

Not ready for full smart? Try connector-linked toilets. Their pre-assembled traps and push-fit pipes mean your plumber spends hours less on installation (and you save money).

Brands That Deliver

We vet every brand in our lineup. Caroma, Australia’s own, leads in drought-proof designs—check their water-saving models here. European innovators like Studio Bagno offer angular, architect-friendly profiles, while Decina focuses on compact shapes for unit bathrooms.

Looking to make a statement? Indigo’s ruby-red toilets add pop to monochrome schemes. For rental properties or granny flats, Fienza offers chip-resistant vitreous china that survives moves and messy tenants.

Make It Yours: Customisation Options

Swap that plastic seat. Our toilet seat range includes bamboo options (eco-friendly and splinter-free) and padded heated versions for arthritic users.

DIYer? Stock up on common components like flush valves and cistern levers. For concealed systems, our buttons and panels come in finishes matching tapware—think brushed brass or gunmetal grey.

Why Australians Trust The Blue Space

  • No Nonsense Advice: We explain trapways, GPF ratings, and rough-ins in plain English.

  • Style Diversity: From back-to-wall minimalism to Seima’s commercial-grade durability, we cover all bases.

  • No Compromises: Every toilet meets or exceeds AS/NZS 6400 water efficiency standards.

  • Future-Proof: Our smart bidet seats can retrofit older toilets, saving you a full replacement.

Need Help Deciding?

  1. Measure First: Check your rough-in distance (wall to drain centre). Standard is 140-165mm.

  2. Prioritise Features: Families love rimless models; tech fans adore Bravat’s app-controlled bidets.

  3. Plan Long-Term: A wall-hung toilet might cost more upfront but saves on future plumbing access.

Ready for a Smarter Bathroom?

Stop settling for “good enough.” Browse our full range or chat with our team. We’ll help you navigate warranties, installation quirks, and style dilemmas—no marketing fluff, just facts. Because at The Blue Space, we’re not selling toilets. We’re selling peace of mind.

  • Don't forget check your plumbing - it's essential!

What should I look for when buying a toilet?

When buying a toilet check the water inlet type:

If you're unsure where these are, consult a plumber.
