How to Care for Your New Timber Flooring

Timber Floor Maintenance

After all the hard work is done and your new flooring is looking fantastic, it's time to consider how to best look after and care for it. While each range of engineered flooring comes with its own caring tips and tricks, here are a few things we suggest implementing to ensure your new flooring keeps looking that way.

5 Tips & Tricks

1. Doormats

We love the introduction of doormats especially at front or back doors to prevent any dirt, grit and other substances from being tracked inside. However, there are a few styles of doormats that need to be avoided, including rubber-backed, latex-backed or coco fibre mats on your floor as they could potentially damage the surface.

2. Curtains & Blinds

On those days where the sun is shining and the heat is on, we recommend closing your blinds & curtains where the floor is on full show. The combination of heat and sunlight can cause most furnishings to discolour or fade and it will definitely do the same to your new flooring. Find window furnishings online now!

3. High Heels & Shoes

In those high traffic areas, we suggest incorporating rugs & runners. Any heels or shoes with grit can leave marks or scratches on your new floor. Another thing to consider are your pets! An excited puppy, while extremely cute, can leave not so cute scratches on your new floor if nails are not properly clipped.

4. Support Furniture with Wide-Bearing, Non-Staining Floor Protectors

Non-staining floor protectors should be made of non-pigmented hard plastics that rest flat on the floor. Felt protectors can also be used. We would also recommend incorporating casters and felt pads for all moveable furniture.

5. Sweep & Vacuum Regularly

Prevent stains by wiping any spills promptly. We also recommend vacuuming and sweeping your floors frequently - especially in high traffic areas such as hallways & laundries.
