Wall Hung Vanities
A wall hung vanity mounts directly to the wall, leaving the floor beneath completely clear. That gap does more than look good, it makes any bathroom feel larger, simplifies cleaning, and lets you set the vanity at whatever height suits your household. What is a wall hung vanity?
A wall hung vanity, also called a floating vanity or wall-mounted vanity, is fixed to the wall studs or a structural frame within the wall, with no base touching the floor. The exposed floor beneath creates a sense of openness that floor-standing units simply can't match.
Who are wall hung vanities best for?
Wall hung vanities suit most bathrooms, but they're particularly well-matched to:
- Smaller bathrooms and ensuites, the visible floor line makes the room read as larger than it is.
- Main family bathrooms, adjustable install height means you can set it at the right level for adults and kids alike.
- Renovation projects, if you're retiling or replastering, it's the right moment to run plumbing into the wall, which is a requirement of this style.
They work equally well in compact powder rooms (from 400mm wide) and generous main bathrooms with double vanities up to 2100mm.
What size do I need?
- Powder Room/Guest ensuite = 400mm - 600mm vanity.
- Single ensuite = 750mm - 900mm vanity.
- Main bathroom (single bowl) = 900mm - 1200mm vanity.
- Main bathroom (double bowl) = 1500mm - 1800mm vanity.
We stock vanities from 400mm through to 1800mm. If your space has unusual dimensions, we can also help with custom sizing through suppliers like Timberline, Marquis and ADP.
What to know before you buy?
Wall and plumbing requirements
Because the vanity carries its full weight through wall fixings, the wall needs either solid studs or a structural frame built into the cavity. Your builder or plumber can assess this during planning, flag it early so any framing work happens before the walls close up.
Waste pipe placement
With the floor clear, the waste pipe needs to exit through the wall rather than the floor. This is a straightforward adjustment for any plumber, but it must be confirmed before walls are waterproofed.
Install height
Standard floor-standing vanities come at a fixed height. A wall hung unit lets you (and your tradie) choose the height, typically 850mm – 900mm from floor to basin rim for adults, or slightly lower in family bathrooms with young children.
Storage
You won't lose meaningful storage by going wall hung. Modern floating vanities use deep, full-extension drawers and smart internal organisation. The main difference is that everything needs a place, which, practically speaking, keeps the bathroom tidier.
Materials and styles
Timber and natural finishes
Warm, tactile, and at home in both contemporary and organic interiors. Brands like Ingrain and Timberline offer genuine timber options that age gracefully.
Coloured finishes
Deep charcoal, sage, navy, and stone tones are strong choices alongside neutral tiles. Fluted (ribbed) fronts add texture and visual interest without requiring patterned tiles to compete with.
White and off-white
Reliable in every setting, from Hamptons to minimalist modern. Pairs with any tile colour and keeps the space feeling fresh.
Curved profiles
If a bathroom full of straight lines feels too stark, a curved-front vanity introduces softness. Marquis offers some of the cleanest examples in this style.
Benefits at a glance
- Space - exposed floor makes the room feel larger, regardless of actual size.
- Cleaning - mop or vacuum straight underneath; no base to scrub around.
- Height flexibility - set at the level that suits your household.
- Resale appeal - a floating vanity reads as a considered, contemporary choice to buyers.

Common questions
Do I need a builder or plumber to install a wall hung vanity?
Yes. The unit needs to be fixed securely into wall studs or a structural frame, and the waste plumbing needs to be set in the wall. This isn't a DIY install, engage a licensed builder and plumber, and involve them early in your planning.
Can I install a wall hung vanity on a tiled wall?
The fixings go through the tiles and into the structure behind. This is standard practice, but it needs to be done carefully to avoid cracking tiles. An experienced installer will know how to handle it.
Are wall hung vanities more expensive than floor-standing ones?
The vanity itself is comparably priced. The additional cost comes from installation, running the waste pipe into the wall and ensuring the wall structure can support the weight. If you're already renovating, this cost is usually absorbed into the broader project.
What's the standard height for a wall hung vanity?
Most are installed with the basin rim at 850mm–900mm from the floor for adult-height use. Taller households often go to 950mm. There's no single correct answer, that's the point of the adjustable install.
